Proud Day

I dare say this will definitely be my last post of the year and it's another two pages for my niece's wedding album. I've used some papers of my own, some clusters from Alexis' Design Studio and items and papers from a Pam Lefors kit - although I have changed the colours of these. I've used CAP 2 to put the pages together and also to create some of the effects. If you've seen my previous posts regarding this album you'll know that I'm putting tags in some of the pages that will be removable. They have a quotation about love/marriage/romance/family on the front but she will be able to write her own memories on the back of them.
I'm entering my pages into these challenges:

Thank you for dropping by today, I hope you've had the best Christmas you could possibly have. My thoughts have been with those of you affected by the dreadful weather here in the UK.

My very best wishes to you all for 2014 - I very much hope that it's a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Special Christmas

This will probably (but never say never! lol!) be my last creation of the year to share with you. My hubby's Christmas card, created in Craft Artist 2 using several kits and one of my own digis - the snowman. The swirly paper is the swirly green one that is part of the pack you can get from the freebie tab above. I re-coloured it in CAP2. For anyone wanting to know how, I changed it to white then clicked on the HSL button and gradually kept taking it a little darker grey until I got the texture back. I think it gives a rather nice backdrop for the lovely log cabin image. I kept it simple because hubby doesn't like fussy so I just added the tree and snowman and glitter to the tree branches.

I'd love to spend Christmas here I think - curled up in front of a log fire and a mug of hot chocolate - bliss! Thank you for dropping by this week and just in case I don't get to post again before Christmas, I hope that yours is wonderful!

F is for......Future

I've got a two pager to share today. Another two from my niece's Wedding last week. She doesn't know it yet, but I'm making an informal album for her. She'll have her official one of course, but she loves my cards so I thought she'd like her wedding scrapped. I'm designing each page so that I can cut out various parts to layer up. This is partly so that I can make the tags removable. I'm adding a marriage/romance related quote to each one and I thought it would be nice for her to be able to write some memories on the back if she wants to. I'll be adding real ribbon to the tags when I print the pages off, the ribbons here are for design purposes. I used CAP2 to put the pages together and a lovely kit from Go Digital Scrapbooking called Chut de reve. It's rare that I use just one kit but this one just worked fine on it's own for these two pages. I also used a past sketch Stuck on You Sketches and a template from Template Dreams - great when you're a bit stuck for time!

These are the two tags - they will enlarge if you click on them.

We are......

My niece got married yesterday and I couldn't resist creating a page of the new family! I've used items from various kits and some effects in CAP2 to create this page. Everything except the photo and the white scalloped embosses paper has had the colour changed. I didn't intend it to be green and I'm still not quite sure how it ended up this way! It seems to work though, so I've gone with it. I didn't get chance to do anything last week which was a shame because I really liked the sketch at Digitally Sweet, so I decided to use it anyway and combine it with the current challenge. I'm entering my page into the following challenges:

A Beery Happy Birthday!

We have two young men's birthday's this month - they will both be 22 and it can be quite an awkward age to cater for. I got round it this time by raiding my scrapbooking supplies and a digi stamp from Just Inklined. Having painted the digi in ArtRage, I put the card together in CAP2, using various effects such as ripped paper edges and inking around the edges of the striped backing paper. I liked the effect of the Happy Birthday on the barrel which looks a bit like a brand burned into the wood. Apart from the digi, the kits used were: Beaches (Daisy Trail) - the stripey paper, Adventures (Sherwood Studio) - the other papers and screw heads, It's all in the wood (Miriam's Scraps) - the barrel.

Lilac Christmas

A simple Christmas card today. The image is one of my own digi stamps, given a glitter effect in CAP2 and added to a white paper with 'embossed' corners. The main bp has been given glittery edges and I've used one of the new border punches that came with the latest patch for CAP2 on the white embossed paper. The sliver paper is one of my own.

Love is the ........

My niece gets married next month and I've really enjoyed making this card for them. Kerry always appreciates the cards and pages I make using photos of her children so using a photo of her and her fiancée had to be a given really! The glittery heart brad I made in Craft Artist and the locket is one of my own embellishments (created from one of my digi stamps and given the gold treatment in photoshop.) Everything else came from a kit I just treated myself to from Escape & Scrap called Cherish with various effects applied using CAP2

Beauty of Autumn

At first, I couldn't get this card to come together and then all of a sudden it 'clicked' thank goodness! The squirrel is one of my own digis that I painted in ArtRage then used in Craft Artist Professional 2 (CAP2). The orange backing paper is also one of my own and everything else came from a variety of different kits. I'm especially pleased with the fancy edges of the orange bp so I'll tell you how I did those. I had already given the paper a chalk edge (found under styles then paper edges) before  I decided to use one of the border punches that came as part of the recent 'patch' for CAP2 and decided to see what would happen if I used it on the paper I'd given the edge to instead of a new piece and the result is what you see. I changed the colour of the edge from white to a dark brown because it went with the card design better, but the picture below shows it in white so you can see it more easily.

I'm quite pleased with this bit of experimentation because it's quite a good way of giving some definition to the punched design without having to add another layer.

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas!

It's the weekend again already! I hope you're having a good one and that the weather isn't too bad where you are. I'm in Christmas mode again. I've been experimenting in CAP 2 and created another 'die cut' which I promptly turned on it's side so that it could accommodate one of my favourite Kenny K digis that I spent a few happy hours colouring using ArtRage. I decided to go with some good old fashioned matting and layering and keep it almost monochrome. I used the same shape that I used for the centre of the die cut for the sentiment.

Gingerbread Christmas

Happy Birthday

I've been doing a bit of experimenting with this one. I love the look of white on white using die cuts so I thought I'd have a go at creating something similar digitally using CAP2. I did a tutorial here to show how to create a white embossed paper look and adapted that. When you do the embossed part it is actually separate to the main paper until you group or merge them together, so at this point you can make the embossed section into an embellishment that you can see through which allows you to add a shadow to 'lift' it from the page. Having created my cut out section I used a solid shape for the middle and another one to make the outer border before grouping them all together. If you make the shape into a punch, it makes it really easy to do. I created the cut out section as a rectangle and used the punch of the shape to cut it out. The punched corners are an embellishment that I turned into a punch in CAP2, and the embossed parts of the paper were done as per the tutorial mentioned above. To finish it off, I embellished with flourishes, flowers and some ribbon and a couple of bows. I'm not sure if the bows are a step too far though - I'd be interested in your opinions.

Brotherly Love And A Little Advice!

I have two offerings for you today - I'm a bit like buses at the moment, nothing for ages then two come at once! Lol!

I just had to scrap this photo of my great-nephew and niece - Elena was just a few days old when her big brother gave her this bottle, but he looks like he was born to it! I created the page in Craft Artist, using several different kits and one of my own papers which is part of a freebie pack you can get from the Freebies tab at the top of this blog if you want it. I created a mask to add the photo to and then blended it into the paper using luminosity, transparency and the glow edge brush to soften the edges - all in Craft Artist. I also did some re-colouring of elements to tie everything in.

I'm entering my page into these challenges:

This one is a page for an inspirational journal and has some sound advice that both Lewis and Elena could do worse than to follow as they make their way through life - or indeed, the rest of us for that matter. The paper is another from the freebie pack I mentioned above that I overlaid some elements from an art journal digi kit on then changed to white and altered the transparency in Craft Artist. The word art was also created in Craft Artist. The opera singer digi is from Make it Crafty and the dancing fiddle is one of my own. Both were coloured in ArtRage - except for the kilt which was paper pieced. The locket  that has the photos in is one of my own elements as are the two brads.

A Lovely Day

We had a lovely day out at Buttermere while Sophie was staying. It's one of the loveliest lakes in the English Lake District. While we were there we decided to have lunch at one of our favourite pubs - The Fish. We'd been to Vindolanda Fort on Hadrian's Wall (we are so lucky to live where we do!) the day before and I couldn't manage the walk down to the lake so while Tom and Sophie wandered down there, I waited in the pub with a pot of earl grey and a good book. I used a template from Fiddle dee dee Designs, elements from a couple of kits from Pam Lefors and Template Dreams, one of my own backing papers and various effects in Craft Artist 2 to immortalise the day.

Funny Face

Goodness but it's been a long time since I blogged! Real life has been getting in the way of both crafting and blogging but that's how it is sometimes - unfortunately, it's likely to be so for a while yet so I'll just be doing what I can, when I can.
We had our lovely GD to stay at the beginning of August and despite being a beauty, she has a tendency to be self concious and pull faces for the camera so when I saw the Soprano digi stamp from Make it Crafty, it gave me an idea for using some of these photos. I coloured the digi in ArtRage using the no lines technique - it's the first time I've used this technique and it took me ages but I really like the end result. I put the page together in Craft Artist 2 and gave her (and just about everything else!) a shadow to make her 'pop' from the page a bit more. I'm entering my page into the Anything Goes at Digitally Sweet this week.

Thank you for dropping by and I hope it won't be quite so long next time.

Campo Golf

This both the first and last page of our Gran Canaria Scrapbook. It's the opening page so now it's complete - unless I add a few more page protectors of course! ;-) We had an extra few days at the start of the holiday because we couldn't get flights to tie in with the check in days for our first week and this is the story of those few days.
I created the page mainly from the Oh so girlie kit by Pam Lefors with a few additional things from 5 other kits and one of my own papers. (The green one which is part of the freebie paper kit that you can get from the tab above). The other kits were: Renew by Digital Scrapbook studio, another of Pam's, Bounty Blue, Remember this night by Template Dreams and Dreams by Stuff to scrap.

Coming Back To Earth!

This is the last page for our Gran Canaria album in as much as it will occupy the slot for the end of the story. I still have the opening page to do and then it will be finished - unless I can't resist adding some more page protectors at a later date of course! Lol! We had the most amazing time, but sadly it had to end sometime. I used two new kits I got this week for this page - Bounty of Blue from Pam Lefors and Remember this night by Template Dreams. Even though these kits are by two very different designers they work together so beautifully that you could be forgiven for thinking they had got together to create them. I also used a template from Template Dreams. The glass effect behind the photo and embossed panel were created in Craft Artist 2. I really enjoyed working with these kits.

Challenges:

  • Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge - Use your favourite colour. (I have to confess that my favourite colour tends to be 'of the moment' in as much as it is often affected by my mood. Making this scrapbook has been bringing back all sorts of memories - the holiday was 8 years ago - very vividly, and I can remember that coming back wasn't easy for a number of personal reasons and we were trying to hang onto the feeling of serenity that the holiday gave us. I think that's the reason I went for these calming blues to scrap the page.)

By Day and Night...

I have another two pages for the album of our first Gran Canarian holiday to share today. The album is almost finished now and I can't wait to show it to hubby. I've shown him the first few pages I did but he hasn't seen the rest and I'm hoping it will be like looking through a book for him. I've taken quite a leap from my comfort zone here and I loved it once I got my 'foothold' on what I wanted to do. Where it's so different from what I'd normally do is the colours - I wouldn't normally put this combo together but it's the challenge this week at Digitally Sweet so I decided to go for it and I must say, that I do really like how it turned out. Instead of making two matching pages I decided to make two complimentary ones instead and the bottom photo shows how it will look in the album. I used the same colours, just changing which ones were dominant and more or less the same embellishments with a few variations. Maspalomas is stunning by day and night and well worth a visit if you get the chance. I used papers and elements from a lot of different kits and I'm afraid I can't remember them all (it was that kind of session!) but if there's anything you want me to identify for you, just ask in the comments and I'll do my best :) I also did a little recolouring in Craft Artist.

Ruby Wedding

I'm getting ahead with my cards with this one - it's my cousin's ruby wedding anniversary at the beginning of August and it's hard to believe that it's 40 years since I was her chief bridesmaid. I've had a lovely time making this for the happy couple. The papers are mine and I've used two of my own digi stamps, the rose trellis and the music collage that I coloured using ArtRage. The cluster of roses and leaves in the top right hand corner are from Heartfelt digi kit by Angie Hinkman. I created the white embossed paper in Craft Artist.

I hope you have a great weekend.

Double Celebration!

Today I have a page for a general family album that I'm doing to, I suppose, kind of catalogue some of the earlier family photos. I started this a few years ago after my parents passed away and we were sorting through all the photos. As we were doing it we found some that none of us knew who some of the people were or why the photo was taken and I realised that when we were gone there'd be even more like that. It might seem a bit strange to use gold for a silver wedding party, but I couldn't seem to make silver work with the photo. I might try again at some point in the future - that's the beauty of scrapbooking, we can always revisit a page later on and have another go.
For this page I used two kits; a template by Template Dreams and a kit I just treated myself to this morning from Go Digital Scrapbooking called Chut.....Je Reve. The only thing I added was the frame which is one of my own and the word art and journalling.

I've got two more pages ready of our first holiday together in Gran Canaria. I've used papers and items from quite a few different kits, with a little bit of re-colouring here and there in Craft Artist. It's so lovely re-living the wonderful memories of this holiday as I make each page.

Pretty As A Flower

This is the page I started to make yesterday that somehow managed to morph into a Christmas card and as I'd saved it to the point I'd reached, which was a good three quarters finished, I came back to it to finish it off today. Almost everything, including the word art, is from A Whisper of Spring digi kit by Karen Glover - and this is the proper colour. The things that came from other kits are: the ribbons which are from one of my own, the photo mask from Jessica Sprague and the corner embellishment that is from White Christmas by Miriam's Scraps. I did all my tinkering in CAP1 - still waiting to get my hands on CAP2 again - but you can still do a lot in CAP1.

The Magic Of Christmas

This is my first Christmas card of the year and wasn't even intentional! I really liked the sketch at Digi Sketch Challenge where you can do either the sketch, the theme or both. I set out to just use the sketch originally and started to put my card together using A Whisper of Spring digi kit by Karen from Daisy Trail - I really liked what I was doing but suddenly decided to make it a Christmas card (don't ask me why because I haven't a clue! lol!) the only thing was that the greens in the kit aren't quite right for Christmas so I saved what I'd done to come back to and set about changing the colours in Craft Artist. I'm having to use CAP1 at the moment because my main computer is poorly sick (critical in fact) and I'm using the lappy and it can't cope with CAP2. I'm really missing CAP2 but not having the extras it gives is meaning I'm having to stretch myself a bit so it's all to the good. Anyway, I digress - back to the card, I added some elements from Molemina's White Christmas and that lovely flourish is from Miriam's Scraps.

Challenges:

Keep your eyes peeled, I'm hoping to be back with the card I originally started in the next day or so. :D

I'm Waaaaaay To Young For This!

It's number 2 GS's 21st birthday this month so I've been busy with his card. I love this photo of him so I couldn't resist using it, although I'm not sure what he'll have to say about it, lol! I've used items from several kits, and items of my own. The two guitars are my own digi stamps and I couldn't not use them considering that Josh is a bass player, could I? I've included the keyboard and laptop because he's recently got into creating music on the computer too. I thought the post-it note might appeal to his sense of humour. The reason for two pictures is because the one below is just the card front which is totally digital for Digitally Sweet.

Butterfly Kisses

I just had a fancy for something a bit different today. Everything on this card except the tropical scene egg, comes from Butterfly Kisses by Karen (available on Daisy Trail). This kit appealed to me as soon as I saw it a couple of months ago, and I'm still slightly surprised by that. Not because the elements and papers aren't lovely - they are - but because I hardly ever use orange for either cards or layouts so for me this one is really bright! The tropical scene egg is one of my own digi stamps and was coloured with a mixture of sponging and pens. All in all, I really enjoyed making this and maybe I can say that I've finally conquered orange! lol!

Sunshine

Another lovely day here so this page was easy to make. On our Creating Rainbows forum I have just started a new monthly challenge to give us all a bit of a 'kick up the mojo' - in the nicest possible way of course. Our theme for June is "You are my sunshine; my only sunshine......" and it certainly seems to have done the trick for me! This is the third project it has inspired in me. This is a page showing our GD, Sophie back in 2005. I cut her out of the rather 'busy' photo she was in and used a luminosity blend mode to blend her into the bp then made her a bit more transparent to complete the process. The elements and word art come from 3 different kits - Sunshine from Rainbow Scrapbook Designs, Whisper of spring by Karen and Sunny with blue skies by Shalin Studio. The last two available from Daisy Trail. There was also some fiddling in Craft Artist.

Meet Matilda

I was inspired to make this page because it was a glorious day here yesterday and Matilda & I tootled off into town and combined a few jobs with making the most of the weather and I realised just what a difference she's made to my life. It's all there in the journalling so I don't need to repeat it here and the pic will enlarge if you click it. Believe it or not, for what is a relatively simple page, I used papers and elements from no less than 7 kits!
I'm entering my page into these challenges:

We are still having some nice weather today although slightly cooler so I'm just off to take advantage of it again.

A New Addiction? Oh Dear!

Art Journalling is something relatively new to me. I very much enjoy digital crafting, which is a lot more that just drag & drop and have been having a play with digital AJ to try out new techniques etc. The first pages I did were in Craft Artist, but this one has been done in ArtRage. I love AR because it really isn't any different to using paint/pens/pencils and paper. Unless you're very good with a mouse, I do recommend a tablet and pen though unless you're using the AR app on an ipad. I've used digital mixed media for this with oils for the background applied with brush and roller and watercolours and alcohol pens for the rest, fading the guitar to look like 2nd or 3rd generation stamping. I used a stencil for the grasses. I've learned more about the program in the hour or so it took to create this than I have in the rest of the 6 months I've had it! I love the effects I can get and can't wait to learn more! The beauty of it is that I can still create even when I can't have access to my stash.

If the sun won't come to me......

I'll have to go to a memory of it!! These are the first two pages for the 3rd and final leg of our Gran Canaria holiday in 2005. This time it was Maspalomas - again a bit more geared towards tourists, but the apartments here were more like ones you'd live in. More photos of the apartment and it's setting will come as part of other pages. I've used several kits and various shapes and effects and colour changes in CAP 2 The photo strip is one I created myself. As you can see, this is another two page spread, I loved this sketch and just mirror imaged it for the second page. If you want more detail, I've added the pages individually below.

Fresh As.....An Iris!

Hi there! We have a gorious day here, I hope you have where you are too. Today's card uses two digi stamps (the easel and the flower used in the cluster) and elements from a couple of different kits. It's been inspired by the 4 challenges below. The bingo line asked for: purple, ribbon, no patterned paper, inked edges and squares. The flowers in the cluster were paper pieced. I love the fresh look of purple/lilacs and white.

Leather & Lace

When I saw the current challenge at Digitally Sweet, it had me scratching my head. Then I came across a free kit called Love Me which was just perfect. I've scrapped this lovely photo of my twin niece and nephew during their first (and so far, only) trip to Florida. Everything except the vellum pocket, 'embossed' scroll on the pocket,  ribbon, and text are from the kit although I changed the colour of the paper from green. I'm very pleased with the floral embellishment on top of the paper - it's part of the kit and is white, which I like and was planning to use as is but I didn't realise I had it highlighted when I went to add a shadow to something else and the shadow ended up being applied to it of course. I decided to leave it because I really like the effect which is very reminiscent of paste used through a stencil. I do love it when I discover things by accident!

The Female Line

This page is a variation on another one I did recently. I wasn't entirely happy with the shadow box frame I created so I created another one and have re-coloured it too. I'm showing three generations of the female line with this one and have done the pictures black and white so that they are all the same. Apart from my own shadow box frame, I've used items from Days gone by, Butterfly kisses and Butterfly paradise kits with some re-colouring.

These Boots.........

Morning all! Today's card is for my brother's birthday at the end of the month. Men's cards are never easy so I decided to focus on two of his interests, music and walking - and his favourite place to walk which is here in the Lake District. I created the card in Craft Artist 2 and although it isn't obvious in the photo have layered various bits up. The two guitars are digi stamps that I coloured in ArtRage. The walking equipment I cut out of photos to use as embellishments. The papers came from kits by Pam Lefors, Sherwood Studios and Daisy Trail. I also used a template by FranB.

On The Wings Of Love

This is a very 'busy' page for me so takes me out of my comfort zone somewhat. I've really enjoyed creating it though, it just kind of evolved so I just went with the flow to see where it took me. The original inspiration for the page came from the shadow boxes with the different sized compartments favoured by Tim Holtz and a few other designers. I like the idea of something similar for a scrapbook page so I set about creating one then built the page around it. I've used items from several kits but the bulk of things come from Butterfly Garden by Daisy Trail. I've used photos of my Mother at 3 different stages in her life; when she was a child, as a Mother and as a Grandmother. As one was sepia, one was black & white and 1 was colour, I decided to make them all sepia in Craft Artist.
I think I've enjoyed this little foray outside my comfort zone but will probably scuttle back into it when I make the next page, lol!

Ist House Mouse

I'm quite slow coming to the house mouse phenomenon but I've been having a play with this lovely image. I created decoupage from the image and did the decoupage digitally for the top card and I'm really pleased with how it's turned out. The bottom card uses the same image as a part finished painting which gives it a different look. The top one is a birthday card and although I haven't decided what the bottom one will be for yet, I think it would make a rather nice 'Thinking of You' card.

Today's layout is a memory page featuring my Mother. It's 23 years this year since she passed away and she's a big miss by us all so it's lovely to scrap a photo of her and re-live a few memories. I've used a couple of kits and some of my own elements and papers and re-coloured a couple of things in Craft Artist 2. I rather like the soft effect of these colours with the black and white photo.

Chillin'

Happy International Scrapbooking Day! Seeing as it's iNSD, I thought I'd share another two pager with you today. These will complete the middle week of our 3 week Gran Canarian holiday from 2005 - for now at least! We were in San Augustin for this week and found it to be very different to Puerto de Mogan - still lovely though. I've used 3 kits to put these together, two of them being the new ones I was trying to use the other day when Mr mojo decided to leave me to my own devices! The three are: Clara by Angie Hinkman, Love Life by Karen Glover and Dreams from Stuff to Scrap. I also used two of Trish's templates from Template Dreams. Thankfully, I can honestly say that I really enjoyed creating these. I'm entering one or both of them into these challenges:

Below is the two page spread as they will face each other in the album.

I hope you get to do some scrapping today too - have a good one :-)
