Grandsons Birthday Card

It's one of our Grandsons' 16th birthday later this month so yesterday I decided that it was time to start thinking about his card. I always find teenage boys' cards the hardest to make so decided to give myself plenty of time but as it happens, this one just fell into place - thanks believe it or not to the Papertake Weekly Challenge which this week is called "to die for"! (Bet it wouldn't have done if I'd left it to the last minute!!) He's a bass player and has been provisionally accepted into music college in september and has ambitions to become a session/backing musician - hence the theme of his card. It's a large card, 8" x 81/4" and I used the project by the very talented Sheila Weaver in the current Joanna Sheen newsletter (and also on the website) to create the card blank. The music backing paper used on both the inside and outside of the card is from Joanna Sheen's Victorian Companion CD3, the Happy Birthday words are rub ons, performance is a See Ds stamp, and the central part of the card is a free CD backed with handmade paper feathered at the edges. The guitar player and name were cut out using the robo. The "Dare to Follow Your Dreams" stamp on the vellum insert is from an oriental set I got from Joanna Sheen. Unfortunately you can see the supposedly "invisible" vellum adhesive but I can't come up with anything (suitable for a 16 year old male) to cover it with so if you have any suggestions please don't be shy! Thanks for taking to time to look.

  6. Fantastic card Ann, well done. I agree that young men's cards are so difficult, I never know what to do for my sons' cards (and they definitely aren't teenagers any more!) I'm sure your grandson will really love this as it is so obviously just for him.

  13. This is such a great card! Perfect for a rocking 16 year old. It's my son's 16th soon and he'd love a card like that as he plays the guitar too. Perfect!
